Dad

Recently I had a "Day of Fun" with my Dad. I planned the whole day about a month ahead, but I wouldn't tell him what we were going to do. I don't believe that he is often free to have a day without responsibility and I was SOOooooo excited to be able to surprise him.

We started the day with a fly fishing lesson from this guy. My dad has confessed in the past to wanting to learn and I tucked that info away for just this kind of day. All the equipment was provided so all we had to do was show up. We each caught one fish (mine was bigger) and I also ended up "catching" my face. Yikes! Good thing Rob was using barb-free hooks.

After lunch here - we then went to the shooting range for a little target practice. It was my first time shooting a handgun and I was honestly a little nervous at first, but I ended up liking it. We each had our own target and my Dad was tons better than me.

My Dad admitted to having a great day and I had so much fun trying new things, especially with one of my best friends. I love you Dad!

PS - I bought both of these fun activites from this web site. I'm addicted.

Turtles & Rabbits

Last night I went to dinner here with one of my new favorite people - JB. This girl is so kind, thoughtful, service minded, inclusive, fun, accommodating, adventurous...and that is just what I've figured out so far.

We started with the Loaded Waffle Fries - made with REAL cheese - gooey goodness melted just right with some fresh scallions, crispy bacon and a side of ranch. Thanks girl for letting me choose this carb overload, even though you were initially drawn to the humus.

Then I got "Joe's BBQ Burger" - 8 oz. of Angus beef smothered in BBQ sauce and stacked with grilled black forest ham, bacon and melted cheddar cheese. You get to choose between French fries (are they really French? why are they called that?), macaroni & cheese, tater tots, onion rings or a side salad. I got the tots -- insert joke from this movie.

The food was good, I'd probably go back. The service was a little slow, but they brought the check super fast. What a fun night! Lots of good conversation and great company.

One restaurant closer to my goal for 2010!

Lalana

This amazing girl came to visit me this past weekend. It had been TOO LONG since the last visit and it was so good to see her.

First thing - straight from the airport we went here.

This is my new favorite restaurant and they have the best lunch special.

After a seven hour shopping trip (during which we bought matching shirts, but not the pillow I was looking for) we went here.

Side note - Looks can be deceiving.

Saturday was all about the
DC Cooking & Entertaining Show where we saw Paula Dean and got TMI straight from her mouth.

After two days of a lot of walking and looking our super cute sneakered feet were tired.

But we made one last trip here.
Silly us - we didn't check the operating hours so it was closed.

But lucky us - they sell the same cupcakes right across the street here.

I ignored the whole world for the weekend and it was
great to be around an amazing, easygoing, super chic, crockpot cooking,
dedicated friend. I miss you already! Come back soon.

My Achilles' Heel

Soda, Pop, Soft Drinks, Soda Pop, Soda Water, Cola, Gaseosas, Refrigerantes, Bebidas, Refrescos, Gespritzter, Sodavand, Bibita, Boisson Carbonisée...

It doesn't matter what the name - this product is my weakness. I know that it is full of empty calories. I also know that it tends to dehydrate the body. I know that it is bad for my teeth. I know I could make better drink choices.

I just can't help myself. Over and over I make the goal "No More Soda!" I may keep strong for a day or even a week. (Once I made it for a whole month :)

But it never fails - I fall off the wagon and find myself in a heaven like state as I indulge in the carbonated sugar rush.

Today it may have happened again -

Starting the path...

Confession - I have been a stealth blog reader for some time now.

Really. I love to read blogs - blogs of friends, blogs of family, even blogs of strangers who inspire me.

I have wanted to have my own for some time now.

Thanks to everyone who has shown me the way.

Wish me luck!
